Weight Loss Cookies: How They Can Help In Losing Weight

It was an obesity expert Dr Siegal who developed the weight loss cookies in the late 1970's. It was as a result of endless consultation with his patients who were starting to give up on the diet plans provided because hunger. We all know that the key to succeeding in any diet plan lies in its ability to satisfy us rather than in its deprivation character. Many people easily drop their weight loss diet plan and go back to their eating habits as a result of hunger. They simply can not afford to keep of the foods they loved. The cookies diet plan was thus developed to solve this problem.

Why cookies

As I was saying, many patients especially those suffering from obesity are known to consume junk and snacks in high amounts. As a result, when they are on a diet plan that denies them such delicacies, they are likely to 'cheat' and relapse back into these eating habits. Normally, the body does not like instant changes, so when you immediately deny it some food, it results into cravings since you are not used to this kind of diet. The cookie diet thus simply developed as a solution to this problem. It went on to gain popularity with time.

What it entails

The main idea behind the cookies was to produce foods rich in protein which were capable of controlling hunger. In essence, proteins are known to make a person fuller for longer unless fruits and vegetables. The trick however is to make the cookies as low in calories as possible otherwise it would make utterly no sense to feed a person struggling to lose weight on high calorie foods.

The diet demands that you eat up to six cookies in a day. They are not designed to be eaten in the morning for breakfast neither at lunch nor for dinner, they are simply for taking when a person is hungry. The good thing is that they contain no chemicals or drugs, simply packed with amino acids designed to suppress hunger.

Why they work

First of all, for a person quitting an old unhealthy diet, chances of relapse are high if alternative measures are not taken. Cookies thus come in handy as they help them stick to their diet plan. They thus are likely to lose weight when on a healthy diet and cookies are just one way of making sure they achieve this.

Again, while trying to lose weight, there is a lot of emphasis on staying full rather than hungry. It is the secret that keeps the body from saving excess energy in the form of fats. When a person is full all the time, calories are constantly burned in the body keeping them in shape all the time. Thus they are encouraged to eat cookies each time they are hungry to make sure no fats are being stored.

Though Siegal discouraged it as a long term plan, he asserted that it is important to make sure you drink lots of water while at it. But he had no doubt that weight loss cookies work, he already had seen that with his patients.
